Eimskip just published its 3rd quarter environmental report. It is the 7th time the Company publishes its quarterly environmental statement, which is very valuable when evaluating environmental risk in the operation.
Overall, there are improvements in most areas and that reflects continuous work of Eimskip employees in environmental projects.
The rate of recycled waste goes from 23% in Q3 2020 to 31% in Q3 2021 (QoQ). The percentage of sorted waste is 78% for this quarter.
Printed paper is down 8% compared to same quarter last year. The reduction in printed paper translates into saving 180 trees per year compared to printed paper in 2015. Several projects are in the pipeline to further decrease printed paper.
Eimskip has the goal to decrease its GHG emission 40% per transported unit to 2030. This goal is connected to UN Sustainable Development Climate Change goal. The largest part of Eimskip emission comes from the vessels. When the GHG emission per unit of transported Cargo (excluding VSA related consumption between Reykjavik and Nuuk) for Q3 2021 is viewed the factor is the same as in Q3 2020. This is a very good result since Eimskip sailing system is larger now than it was last year going from nine vessels Q3 2020 to 10 vessels 2021. Eimskip main KPI is adjusted to vessel sharing agreement with Royal Arctic Line (RAL) due to monopoly for the transport.
Eimskip is constantly focusing on the future and part of that journey is to analyze future energy possibilities for vessels, trucks, and other equipment’s. The technology is developing fast, both in terms of design and infrastructure for new environmental energy sources. There are still many unanswered questions, but the progress is visible.
