Recently Eimskip adjusted its sailing system in response to customers‘ greater demand in transportation of fresh commodities to the United States and Canada. Exporters in Iceland and the Faroe Islands started trial shipments in export of fresh salmon in late 2020 and based on great outcomes of these trials, Eimskip now offers steady, weekly service. Quality comparison tests have given outstanding results and exporters are already looking towards locations further from discharge ports, even Miami and Los Angeles.
Apart from salmon, a few fresh white fish shipments have also been transported to North America with positive outcomes from quality tests. Based on those results, a substantial increase is expected in transportation of white fish in this particular service over the coming weeks and months.
“It‘s clear that the adjustments we made to our sailing system regarding export of fresh commodities are already delivering more value to our customers. Not only because more freshness of the products adds to their value but also as a new and more environmentally friendly option in transporting fresh commodities over such long distances. We are proud of being leading in transporting fresh commodities but it’s as important for us to have the chance to be leading in more environmentally friendly transportation, since these matters are getting more and more important in the mind of our customers”, says Vilhelm Már Thorsteinsson, CEO of Eimskip.
