The European Union has implemented changes to its customs legislation known as Import Control System 2 (ICS2). The implementation has been in three parts and the third and final part pertains to maritime cargo after December 4th this year.

ICS2 reinforces customs risk and security management of goods entering or moving through Europe, requiring increased information disclosure in maritime transport.

Eimskip’s customers transporting goods to or through Europe must ensure, prior to shipping, that:

  • First 6 digits of Harmonized System (HS) codes are included for goods entering EU boarders.
  • Detailed product description is accessible such as weight and number of items for each HS code, as well as information regarding actual sender and recipient.
  • Recipients have an Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number issued by customs authorities in member states.

Eimskip is in full preparation for the new procedures and requirements and will share any relevant information as soon as publicly available, as well as answer questions our customers may have. The Company will in the coming months, implement changes to facilitate information transfer to the new ICS2 register, to create as seamless transfer as possible.

Failure to comply with the new requirements may result in shipment delays or customs clearance issues on arrival.

Further information regarding ICS2 is available at official EU website.
